Marlene Ford
    Learn French Horn: About

Marlene Ford specializes in teaching middle-school through college students. Preparation for district contests, college acceptance and recitals are all part of the lessons. Students are highly successful in all these endeavors. All place in district competitions. All are accepted into college music programs - most with scholarships.

She graduated from Ohio University in Fine Arts and Norfolk State University in Music. She currently performs with the Williamsburg Symphony, Lakeside Symphony and Eastern Virginia Brass. She previously performed with the Virginia Beach Pops, Virginia Opera Orchestra, Virginia Symphony, the Prelude Quintet, and the Hardwick Chamber Ensemble.

She teaches horn at Old Dominion University and has also taught horn at Norfolk State University and Christopher Newport University. An artist of the year with Young Audiences of Virginia, Ford creates and performs educational programs throughout the state. Funded by various arts commissions she has commissioned and performed as a soloist works by female composers. The Eastern Virginia Brass has commissioned and performed music to celebrate the 1607 settling of Jamestown, the American Civil War, the settlement of Virginia Beach and other notable events.

I'm always learning. If there is a master class, I take it. If there is a concert to play, I play it. If there is a concert, I go.

I encourage students to feel the music - enjoy it, hate it, love it... In some ways it doesn't make a difference, just feel.
